Success is far too often thought of as impossible. The fact is that no matter how far we get in our path to success we always end up further than where we started. Don't wait to better your life
Take these next 5 tips and begin your journey towards your very own success.
Decide What You Want
You are not getting anywhere without goals.
The important part of putting yourself together for success is figuring out where you are going as opposed to flailing around and letting your resources get away from you.
Do some goal setting, both in terms of large goals that are made for a lifetime and small goals that will get you where you there.
When you want to be a success, you will find that there are definitely going to be naysayers along the way.
What might hurt the most is that these are people who we trust and who we love.
Perhaps we love them unwisely, or maybe they just want to protect us, but when other people try to define us, they are not doing us any favors!
Listen to your own instincts and make sure that you are in a place where you can trust yourself.
t is far too easy to point to places where other people have failed us or where we would have succeeded if only something hadn't stopped us
The problem is that no matter what has happened in the past, you need to face up to it and overcome it.
Take responsibility for the good and the bad in your life and see what you can do to overcome and to take control.
This may be one of the most important steps for being a success.
When you are in a place where you are dealing with others, it is important to be compassionate.
Not only could many people out there use some compassion, you will find that it does you good as well.
It makes you more welcoming and more understanding, and it will teach you to let go of anger and to make sure that you can start your life over when you need to.
Compassion can be a difficult thing to learn but it is also very important that you try.
Get to know yourself and recognize that there are things that you cannot change about yourself
.wow.
A good set of notes can serve you well. Your notes help you remember which concepts your professor stressed and, thus, give you an idea as to what will be covered in the exam. Note taking also helps you concentrate on the lecture.
Most of the material you have to learn at university is presented in written form.
That's why it's so important to know an active reading technique that will enable you to learn and remember what you read.
Before you start to read, take a few minutes to skim over the main features of the text: title, headings, introduction, summary, pictures/graphs, margin notes, etc. This will give you an idea of what the chapter or journal article is about and what the big, important ideas are.
Turn the heading of the section into a question such as "What is .....?" A question helps you read faster and remember better.
Read the section selectively to answer your question.
Hoo
hen you've finished reading the section, look away from the text and summarize the answer as much as possible in your own words
Write a few key words in your notes or in the margin of the text for later review.
When you're ready to stop reading, do a quick review by looking over the main ideas you've just read to see how they fit together.
Then test yourself to see if you can recall (out loud) the ideas from memory. Review again in a week or two.
ou might feel a bit overwhelmed the first time you're assigned to write a college paper?the material you cover in class is probably more advanced than what you're used to, and your professor will expect your thinking to be on an equally high level. However, if you apply an organized writing process to your paper, you'll quickly be able to craft compelling arguments and back them up with supporting evidence.
Whether you're analyzing facts in a research paper or interpreting texts in a critical paper, your job boils down to convincing your audience of the validity of your interpretation.
Give your paper a clear structure?begin with an argument of some kind, which is laid out through a series of claims, each of which is supported by evidence. Your paper should answer three basic questions:
What is the evidence? This question is answered with a presentation of your research or with evidence from the texts.
What is your interpretation of the evidence? This question is answered with your interpretation of the factual material or texts.
Who cares? This question is answered with a statement of your argument.
For a short assignment (say, from three to five pages), you may want to choose an argument that can be demonstrated in three or four simple steps.
For a longer paper, you can choose a more ambitious argument.
Your goal should be to introduce your paper with an argument or claim of some kind. In one prominent sentence, state a case; put yourself on the line by establishing a position you then have to defend in the body of the paper.
Suppose you've decided to evaluate two theories of economic growth in Mozambique. Instead of opening with a list of facts about Mozambique, try to establish your argument by stating briefly which theory is best and why.
Build your argument in steps. Make sure your sentences follow one another logically and coherently. Include clear transitions between your paragraphs
Thoroughly express concepts and claims. For each assertion you make, ask yourself, Have I really defended this claim or merely stated it?
Don't include only one or two quick factual references, but a number of them that range throughout your paper and show your familiarity with, and understanding of, the material in question.
Write clearly and convincingly. Take some care with the phrases you construct, the metaphors you employ, and the words you choose.
Provide a citation for material in your paper that is not your own.
This includes items such as a quick page reference; a few facts quoted directly from your source; or an occasional longer passage, table, or chart that you deem important enough to include in the body of your writing.
Try to have fun with your essay. Prove your points, but don't forget that your paper is also an exercise in creativity and communication. Work on your ability to fine-tune a point and really develop it.
Your paper should illustrate who you are as a thinker.
Test dates, fees, and deadlines
College application due dates
Required financial aid applications and their deadlines
Recommendations, transcripts, and other necessary materials
Your high school's deadlines for application requests, such as your transcript
Ask for recommendations. Give each person your resume, a stamped, addressed envelope, and any required forms.
Write application essays and ask teachers, parents, and friends to read first drafts.
You should get acceptance letters and financial aid offers by mid-April.
Put things that are most important at the top and do them first. If it's easier, use a planner to track all of your tasks. And don't forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments.
Get some reading done on the bus ride home from school, for example, and you'll kill two birds with one stone.
You'll work more efficiently if you figure out when you do your best work. For example, if your brain handles math better in the afternoon, don't wait to do it until late at night.
You'll reinforce what you've learned, so you need less time to study. You'll also be ready if your teacher calls on you or gives a pop quiz.
Running on empty makes the day seem longer and your tasks seem more difficult.
If phone calls are proving to be a distraction, tell your friends that you take social calls from 7-8 p.m. It may sound silly, but it helps.
Figure out how much free time you have each week. Give yourself a time budget and plan your activities accordingly.
Have you ever wasted an entire evening by worrying about something that you're supposed to be doing? Was it worth it? Instead of agonizing and procrastinating, just do it.
Setting goals that are unrealistic sets you up for failure. While it's good to set high goals for yourself, be sure not to overdo it. Set goals that are difficult yet reachable.
Consider these tips, but personalize your habits so that they suit you
If you set priorities that fit your lifestyle, you'll have a better chance of achieving your goals.
